This large mid eighteenth century French hand carved olive wood bust depicts a bishop clad in liturgical vestments. The bishop with full beard and curly hair wears a distinctive mitre ha,t and a cope (cape-like garment) is draped over his shoulder. The cope is detailed with stylized flowers and leaves. Standing at 16 inches in height with an 18 inch width, this impressive large scale bust is sure to make a statement. c. 1750.
