About the Item

These two life-size bronze heads feature a fantastic patina and are mounted on two granite steles measuring 114 cm and 109 cm in height. Both the sculptures and the steles are in undamaged condition. The busts depict two male heads, with hairstyles that may point to the Bauhaus period. This period is also confirmed by a photo album, presumably belonging to the artist of the busts, which was acquired with the two busts. The photo album features several original photographs from the years 1925 to 1928 from the studio of the art academy, with several references to the sculptor Georg Kolbe and the location of the master student's studio. The original owner of the album titled one of the photos "Probezeit bei Prof. Georg Kolbe." Georg Kolbe was one of the most important and successful German sculptors of the early 20th century. This suggests that the creator of these busts was a master student of Georg Kolbe.
