About the Item

A rare Italian statue from the second half of the 17th century. A finely crafted white statuary marble artwork depicting the head of a young woman, reminiscent of the iconography of a goddess or an idealized female portrait. The sculpture is conceived with a refined and measured language, inspired by the models of ancient Roman culture. The composed expression and the wavy hair, treated with restraint and elegance, are elements of classical influence. The statue rests on a non-contemporary 20th-century turned marble base, beautifully decorated and well-stability. The artwork easily fits on a console or writing desk, ideal for a professional study or to enrich a private collection such as a Wunderkammer, the so-called cabinet of curiosities. It has some small losses and signs of aging (see photo), but is overall in good condition.
