18th Century Continental Polychrome Terracotta Sculpture of the Kneeling Virgin

Fantastic, life size sandstone statue of David. Circa late 18th century.

A carved wooden sculpture of a knight crusader from the mid-20th century painted in a silver color with brown undertone. The knight is kneeling on a later rectangular black wooden stepped pedestal, holding his sword horizontally while wielding a kite shield mounted on his forearm, emblazoned with a cross and a forked lightning. Looking determined to battle for glory, he wears a silver painted chainmail coif on his head and chest beneath a helmet framing his bony face, a cuirass above a hauberk, greaves and sabatons. The perfect recreation of a crusader’s battle armor enhanced by the silver paint and numerous details make this carved wooden sculpture of a kneeling knight...

A rustic Italian faience vase molded in relief from the 19th century. The body of flattened circular form is topped by a tall cylindrical neck with a flaring rim flanked by rope-like handles. Molded in relief overall, each side is decorated with the figure of a bird in a stylized wreath amid fruits, nuts and grape vines. Resting on a flared circular foot with incised geometrical patterns echoed on the neck and rim, the vase is covered overall with brown and green splashes on an ochre ground. The rustic style of this Italian faience vase, with its rope-like decoration and particular shape echoing traditional wine flasks...

This is an outstanding Italian 18th century carved wood polychromed sculpture of Virgin Mary. The Sculpture is hand painted with some remains of a gold gilt in few places and originated until lately in a private Villa in Tuscany (Italy). The colors are typical red, blue and green are spectacular on this large figure. The Virgin's hands are joined together in a prayer, while standing on a pedestal on the both sides of which are devil's horns (bottom left side horn missing ) symbolising Holly Mary defeating the Evil, protected by the Holly Ghost and an Angel.
