18th century Italian hand-carved gold leaf angel with fossil agate coral wings and mounted aragonite.
The hand-carved angel was once part of a decorative, angelic depiction in a historic church in Tuscany. The piece is adorned with the fossil agate coral which creates the wings for the angel Fossil agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. The aragonite is from Morocco and has many different formations. This one in particular emulates a cloud which is compliments the 18th century Italian gilded angel.
The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian angel is originally 18th century.
The Italian angel has been joined with the natural elements to create a sculptural work of old and new - creating historically significant, figurative work of organic and old.
