About the Item
18th century Italian gold leaf angel wing mounted on tourmaline in crystal quartz.
The large, gold leaf and painted angel wing originally came from a church in Tuscany. It was once used as part of a decorative motif in angelic depictions in a historic Italian church. Tiny pieces of green and pink tourmaline embellishes the angel wing and perfectly coordinates with the original green and pink paint of the artifact. It is mounted onto the tourmaline in a matrix of crystal quartz. This specimen of quartz crystal with long, narrow inclusions of tourmaline is rare to come by at this size. The mineral alone is 15 lbs (6.8 kg).
The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian angel wing is originally 18th century.
The piece has been combined with the elements to create a historically significant yet contemporary, figurative work of old and new.
