About the Item

Place this exquisite pair of antique carved figurines on a mantel, console, or buffet. Crafted in Italy circa 1780, each tall sculpture depicts a chubby cherub-like figure standing on a carved giltwood base richly decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves and foliate motifs. Both figures are hand carved in solid wood and retain their original polychrome and gilt finish, showing a charming combination of muted blue, red, and gold tones with soft age-related wear. The sculptures display delightful facial expressions and dynamic postures, characteristic of late 18th-century Italian craftsmanship. Their ornate pedestals with gadrooned rims and gilt embellishments add sculptural depth and elegance. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, these one-of-a-kind figures could also be converted into decorative table lamps if desired. Measures: 10" W × 7" D × 21" H.
