About the Item
A 19th c. French bronze figure of a dancing faun by Eugène-Louis Lequesne. Hand-signed at the base Lequesne (1815-1887). Likely cast by the Gautieur foundry. Found in Paris. Dimensions: 20 inches high x 7.75 inches wide x 7 inches deep. Arm width is 6.5 inches. One of a few models made, proving out the design for the original, full-scale sculpture that Lequesne created for Jardin du Luxombourg in Paris. The muscular, young faun dances on a sack of wine. Raising his left arm and his right leg, showing the energy in his movements. Lequesne was inspired by a statue of a dancing faun found in Pompei.
