About the Item

A Life-Size Italian 19th Century Carrara Marble Statue of a Dancing Faun with Cymbals signed by A. Frilli, Firenze. This piece is after the original model by Massimiliano Soldani (Italian, 1656-1740). The piece is all hand-carved from Italian white Carrara marble. It is all hand-carved and hand-polished. The large faun is seen standing and dancing by a tree trunk with a single high sandal shoe propped under his right foot. In each of his hands is a cymbal which he uses to play music with while dancing for his muse. He has a very muscular body type as well as curly hair and over-sized, proportional, arms, legs and torso. He is seen standing on an oval base, which steps the piece up slightly higher than the ground. The sculpture is signed on the base: "A. Frilli Firenze" Italy, Circa: 1880-1890
