Sold at Christies: Date 21 Jul 2011, live auction 3699 Lot 96 The Duarte Pinto Coelho Collection from the Distinguished Decorater's house in Madrid and Trujillo, Spain. Peter Ipsen P. Ipsens Enke was a ceramics manufacturer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company was founded in 1843 by Peter Ipsen and continued after his death in 1860 by his widow Louise Ipsen and son Berthel Ipsen. The company achieved international success with replicas of ancient Greek and Roman ceramics, won awards at international exhibitions and opened stores in Paris and London. After the turn of the century, it collaborated with artists such as Thorvald Bindesbøll, Georg Jensen, WillumsenJ and Axel Salto. The company closed its doors in 1955. The original marble statue of Achilles by Ernst Herter (1846-1917) stands on the island of Corfu next to the Palace of Achilleion.
