About the Item

19th Century patinated bronze sculpture of Diana of Gabbi measuring 21.5 inches tall and 28 inches in total as shown mounted on its ebonized wooden pedestal. With the stamped mark of Achille Collas who collaborated with Ferdinand Barbedienne in 1838 to form the Collas Barbedienne foundry. The original work in white marble depicting the goddess, Artemis, was discovered in 1792 on the property of the Prince Borghese at Gabii near JRome. In 1807 the Prince sold the statue to Napoleon. It has resided in the collection of the Louvre since 1820.
