About the Item

Decorate a gentleman’s study or office with this finely detailed 19th-century French figure. Crafted circa 1880, the spelter sculpture stands on a variegated beige marble plinth and depicts a huntsman dressed in Louis XV attire, holding a musket in his left hand while shading his eyes with his right as he scans the horizon. Executed in the manner of Hippolyte François Moreau, the statue exhibits fine casting, excellent proportions, and beautifully defined folds that enhance its sense of movement and realism. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and features a warm, patinated bronze finish. A distinguished addition to a library, study, or mantel. Hippolyte François Moreau (1832–1927) was a celebrated French sculptor known for his romantic and genre figures in bronze and spelter. Born in Dijon and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under François Jouffroy, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1863 to 1914 and won medals at the Universal Expositions of 1878 and 1900. His works are held in major collections, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon. Measures: 7″ W × 7″ D × 17″ H
