About the Item

This charming 19th-century porcelain figurine group, created by Samson Cie of Paris, captures the elegance and whimsy of 18th-century European decorative arts. The scene features an ornate carriage drawn by two finely detailed horses, each ridden by figures dressed in period attire. The riders, with their tri-corner hats and tailored coats, bring a sense of movement and sophistication to the piece. The carriage itself is beautifully adorned with hand-painted floral motifs and highlighted with delicate gilded accents, showcasing Samson’s skill in replicating the refined style of earlier porcelain masters such as Meissen and Sèvres. The soft pastel colors and fine detailing reflect the Rococo influences that inspired much of Samson's work. Set on a sculpted base designed to resemble natural terrain, the piece has a lively, storybook quality that draws the viewer into its world. Samson was known for producing high-quality pieces that paid homage to the grandeur of 18th-century porcelain, and this figurine group is an excellent example of their craftsmanship.
