About the Item

Grand Tour bronze, Hermes, Mercury, Italian bronze sculpture, Neoclassical art, 19th century, early 20th century, Grand Tour souvenir, patinated bronze, classical figure, Hellenistic revival. This piece is a fine example of Grand Tour bronzes produced in Italy around circa 1900, inspired by classical Hellenistic and Roman originals found in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli and the Vatican collections. Cast in hollow bronze using the lost-wax (cire perdue) technique and finished with a dark patinated surface, the sculpture demonstrates excellent modeling and subtle surface polish, typical of Italian foundries active in Naples and Florence during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
