An exquisite 19th-century Italian giltwood cherub figure, beautifully hand-carved and seated atop a stepped architectural plinth. The cherub, rendered in expressive Baroque style, features finely modeled curls, soft rounded limbs, and a serene facial expression—capturing the spirited innocence characteristic of ecclesiastical sculpture of the period. The original water-gilded surface displays a rich, warm patina with areas of red bole and natural wear from age, revealing the craftsmanship and authenticity of its creation. The tiered base, also gilt with remnants of burnished and matte gold, adds height and stately presence, suggesting it may have originally been part of a larger altar or architectural element.
