About the Item

This sculpture depicts a thick-edged angular acroterion in 19th-century terracotta, Lombardy. The figure represents a theatrical mask. Masks on a symbolic level represent the immortality of the soul, deriving their eschatological character from the Dionysian mysteries associated with the world of theater.
