About the Item

Antiques of London A finely modelled bronze bust by George Van der Straeten, depicting a Dutch lady in traditional dress, mounted on a columnar base with classical detailing. The sculpted figure shows delicate facial features, intricate detailing in the ruffled collar and head drapery, and a graceful sense of posture typical of Van der Straeten’s decorative style. The base includes a plaque or medallion “Société des Bronzes de Paris”, confirming European manufacture and giving provenance. The base is in a warm stone/terracotta tone, which complements the bronze. Overall, it’s a decorative piece stemming from the Art Nouveau / decorative sculpture tradition, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, between about 1885-1930.
