About the Item
A fine antique French bronze sculpture.
By Louis Lerolle (ca. 1868-1948)
In gilt bronze with a darkened finish.
In the form of a well-dressed woman with a large hat putting on a glove.
Mounted on a red marble plinth.
Marked for L. Lerolle to the corner of the bronze platform and with a small Lerolle foundry mark to the corner.
Although we've found little on Louis Lerolle's career, we believe that he is the namesake of the founder of the Lerolle Fres. foundry in Paris (which cast this bronze).
For reference, please see a related bronze in the archives of the Musee d'Orsay item no. 167623.
Simply a wonderful rare Belle Époque sculpture!
