About the Item
A fine Antique 19th century cast gilt bronze statue of the medieval French King Louis VII of France, circa 1880.
King Louis VII (1120–1180) was the King of France from 1137 until his death and was famous for his role in the crusades. The statue is very finely cast and depicts Kind Louis VII wearing his crown and medieval armor decorated with Fleur de Lis and his coat of arms with a coronet, his swork hanging by his side. The figure is resting on a ruin of a gothic arch niche with a Knight templar standing with his sword, to the right on the ground is the kings shield featuring a cross and resting on his battleaxe.
The statue is raised on a black marble plinth, condition is excellent, the quality of the casting
gilding is of the finest quality and done by the lost wax method (or Cire Perdue in French)

Louis VII is best known for his involvement in the Second Crusade (1147–1149), an ill-fated military campaign to the Holy Land aimed at recapturing territory from Muslim forces. Louis VII was also married to Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of the most powerful women of the medieval period, though their marriage was annulled in 1152. King of France from the Capetian line, he pursued a long rivalry with Henry II of England, marked by recurrent warfare. In 1154 he married Constance of Castile, who died in childbirth, and, in 1160, Adele of Champagne, mother of the future Philippe II of France.

Incredible investment quality antique French gilded bronze Empire eight day clock, "Allegory of Poetry" Claude François Rabiat circa 1810, in excellent condition.
The clock depicts a handsome tall winged angel holding a stylus and leaning on a column with two volumes on philosophy. The column with four portrait plaques including "Caesar" and the writer/philosopher "Xenophon", there are two further portrait plaques to the side of the column, the clock is raised on a malachite marble plinth with gilt bronze bun feet.
The clock having an eight day time and strike mechanism, striking the hours on a mellow sounding bell, the white potrcelain dial with black Roman numerals and signed "a' Paris".
The clock works perfectly and has recently been professionally overhauled and cleaned by a clocksmith, the clock keeps very good time, the original key and pendulum is present.
