This life-sized sculpture from the early 20th century depicts Saint Anthony of Padua in fantastic realism. The piece is hand-carved from plaster with intricate details that capture the essence of the subject. The statue stands at an impressive 158cm tall, with a length of 50cm and a width of 40cm. Crafted in France during the Art Nouveau period, this sculpture would make a beautiful addition to any art collection. , the sculpture polychromed with the most fabulous colours. We have 4 other statues available for sale Anthony was born and raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal, and died in Padua, Italy. Noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick, he was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history, being canonized less than a year after his death. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius XII on 16 January 1946.
