About the Item

This large and substantial cast bronze sculpture is unsigned, but presumed to have been made in circa 1880 for the Grand Tour. The sculpture depicts the Greek god Hermes or mercury seated on a rock with one leg extended. The casting is very detailed from the locks of the hair, to the toes and straps of the sandals and is patinated black. The base is a cut and polished slab of marble.
