About the Item

A striking and powerful Art Deco sculpture of a crouching archer (or "Bowman") by the renowned Italian sculptor Salvatore Melani (1902–1934), executed circa 1920–1930. This monumental piece perfectly embodies the period's fascination with athleticism, classical form, and dynamic movement, with Melani capturing the male figure in a moment of intense tension, his musculature taut and bow drawn in an iconic image of strength and focus. This specific version is in terracotta, finished in a warm, reddish-brown hue that enhances the figure’s detailed anatomy and stylized haircut, and is set upon an integrated stepped base. The sculpture is in excellent vintage condition with original patina consistent with age and bears a production stamp/number "306 MAF" on the base, indicating its commercial high-quality studio production. Melani is celebrated for his vibrant, stylized work, and this Archer stands as one of his most important and recognizable creations, making it a magnificent focal point for any interior, complementing both traditional and modern decor. Dimensions W 72cm/28.4 in., D20 cm/ 7.9 in., H64.5 cm/ 25.4 in.
