"The Huntress and Dog" sculpture, created by the celebrated Italian sculptor Salvatore Melani (1902–1934), circa 1930. The piece beautifully captures the Art Deco fascination with athletic grace and fluid motion.
The sculpture features a powerful female figure, a classical Huntress or Goddess Diana, in a theatrical, flowing gown that swirls around her as she moves. She is straining against the leash of a fierce, forward-lunging hunting dog, creating a powerful sense of tension and narrative drama.
The piece is cast in metal with a rich, warm golden-brown patina that highlights the intricate details of the drapery and the animals' musculature.
