About the Item

An original French Art Deco bronze sculpture of a nude dancer with a veil by Armand Lemo 1881-1936 An exceptional and rare French Art Deco statue showcasing a polychrome figure of a gracefully draped female nude. The piece boasts a captivating patina in silverplating and transparent golden brown. After meticulously cleaning the darkened patina, a stunning silver finish was unveiled. The woman exudes elegance as she stands in a dancer's pose, her body delicately poised on tiptoes. With her arms outstretched, she holds a draped cloak behind her, skillfully creating the illusion of weighted fabric with tassels adorning both sides. The drapery not only serves as a visual element that forms a U-shaped backdrop, but also holds a conceptual significance, acting as a shield. In the style of Josephine Baker or Louie Fuller's dance, the body becomes mostly hidden within the depths and performance of the fabric. A braided bun adorns her hair, presenting a scene of innocence that contrasts with the sensuality of the figures pose. Resting on its original verde green veined marble base, this sculptural artwork finds its rightful place in the realm of artistic excellence. Art Nouveau, Hollywood Regency, Modern, post Modern, Italian, sports, dance. It is purported that Lemo is a pseudonym for Robert Lemoine. His work was edited by Edmond Etling and he also worked with Reveyrolis in Paris, France. Lemo exhibited at the Salons des Artistes Français in the twenties.
