Art Deco Porcelain Figurine c. 1920, Bajazzo, Rosenthal, by Himmelstoss
This is an Art Deco porcelain figurine, Bajazzo model, by Rosenthal, designed by Himmelstoss around 1920. The piece represents a character from the Commedia dell'arte, holding a mandolin. He wears a harlequin costume with checked trousers, a two-tone red and white cape, and a pointed hat. The masked face and the hand partially covering his mouth give him a dramatic expression. The figure stands on an oval white porcelain base, and the Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria manufacturer's marks, as well as the artist's signature and model number, can be seen on the base. The piece features an enamel finish that highlights the details of the costume and the figure's patina.
