About the Item
An exquisite French Art Deco ceramic sculpture titled “Femme Allongée” (Reclining Woman), designed by the celebrated sculptor Charles Lemanceau circa 1930s.
This striking piece embodies the "Modernist" branch of the Art Deco movement, featuring a stylized female figure characterized by streamlined, rhythmic curves and geometric elegance.
While Lemanceau’s work is frequently found in white crackle-glaze, this rarer iteration is finished in a dramatic high-gloss obsidian black with hand-applied gold gilding highlighting the drapery and hair. Signed "Lemanceau" in the ceramic base and likely produced by the renowned Manufacture de Saint-Clément, this sculpture serves as a sophisticated testament to the glamour and avant-garde spirit of 1930s.
