About the Item
French Art Deco patinated bronze sculpture from circa 1930, celebrating the heroic figure of a Sailor or Navigator at sea. The muscular male nude is captured in a dramatic, powerful kneeling posture, shielding his eyes to peer toward the horizon, a classic maritime gesture of scanning for land or danger.
This nautical interpretation is strongly supported by the figure resting against a large, stylized ship's rudder and the detail of a coiled rope, creating a compelling narrative.
The sculpture is embossed "MEURICE" and "EDIY. DELYEN 118", the editor.
