The name Amphora refers to delicate pottery manufactured in the Bohemian region of Turn Teplitz between 1894 and 1904 during the Art Nouveau period. These ceramic items are also referred to as "Teplitz" by traders and collectors.
There were many companies in the Turn Teplitz region that produced ceramic items.
RSt&K and Wahliss were two of the most important companies of this style.
After 17 years leadership in ceramics production, Alfred Stellmacher encouraged his son and sons-in-law to establish a porcelain factory.
In 1892 they were the first Amphora manufacturer. The company was named after the owners Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel (RSt&K).
In 1893, their items were introduced to the United States at the Chicago World's Fair, where they were awarded the "best in show" award.
At the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair exhibit, they received high accolades and cemented their reputation as pottery masters.
More than a century later, their products still have many fans among pottery collectors.
The departure of Paul Dachsel in 1903 and Eduard Stellmacher in 1904 marked the end of Amphora's golden age.
