Bronze Rhino Bust Sculpture
By Heinrich Filter Bronze Art
Located in Pretoria, Gauteng
The Black Rhino is one of Africa’s most formidable creatures, yet also among its most vulnerable. This bronze bust, finished in a deep blue verdigris patina, captures the raw strength and weathered dignity of the rhino’s head, its horn thrust forward like a spear forged by evolution. I first sketched this piece in the field when all I could see was a rhino’s head emerging through the thicket—an unforgettable impression of power and presence.
The rhino’s horn, once its ultimate defense, has tragically become the very reason for its decline. In this sculpture, that paradox is frozen in bronze: resilience and fragility bound together. Set on a sandstone base, the piece is both a tribute and a reminder—of nature’s grandeur and mankind’s responsibility to protect it.

Turkana Girl - Bronze African Sculpture
By Heinrich Filter Bronze Art
Located in Pretoria, Gauteng
Bronze sculpture of young girl from Kenya's Turkana tribe in traditional attire and characteristic hairdo. The Turkana tribe, nomadic by nature, are a Nilotic people native to the Turkana District in northwest Kenya, a semi-arid climate region bordering Lake Turkana in the east.
My art is inspired by Africa and it’s magnificent wildlife and people. Seeing tribe people’s silhouettes in the blistering summer haze enthused me to branch out into human figurative sculpture.
Turkana Girl - Bronze sculpture. Limited Edition of 24. Sculpture Height 65 cm including Sandstone base of approx 17 x 15 x 4 cm.
Each piece of bronze art is handcrafted by myself from beginning to end - sculpting, casting in my own foundry and finished individually by hand with it's own unique patina. Patinas may vary slightly. This is edition 1 of 24 and ready for delivery. After this each edition is made on order so will be ready for shipping from South Africa approx 4 to 6 weeks after receipt of order.
I am a self-taught South African artist whose work is inspired by Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and people. My years as a safari guide gave me an intimate connection to the bush — a place that taught me everything I know about shape, form, and movement. You can’t sculpt what you don’t feel, and every moment spent observing wildlife offers a lesson in balance, grace, and presence.
I am drawn to bronze — an ancient material with a living surface that changes, deepens, and gains character over time, much like the landscapes and creatures that inspire me. Each patina adds its own mood and individuality, ensuring every piece carries its own quiet story.
My work ranges from bird, wildlife, figurative, abstract to African sculpture...
