About the Item

Baroque sculpture in polychrome and gilded wood of the Immaculate Virgin, Spain, 17th century Spectacular Spanish Baroque sculpture in carved, polychrome, and gilded wood, depicting the Immaculate Virgin standing on a crescent moon and surrounded by cherubs, with her hands crossed in prayer. The work, from the Castilian school of the late 17th century, features very well-preserved polychromy and rich gilding, with fine brocade work in the folds of the mantle. The delicate, serene expression of the face and the iconography of the Immaculate Conception are particularly noteworthy. It is crowned with a magnificent original silver crown from the period. The base displays cherubs in vibrant colors, adding dynamism to the composition. This is a large-format sculpture with a monumental presence, probably intended for an oratory or private chapel. 101 cm high, 40 cm wide, crown 22 x 29 cm, total height with crown 119 cm

This is an outstanding Italian 18th century carved wood polychromed sculpture of Virgin Mary. The Sculpture is hand painted with some remains of a gold gilt in few places and originated until lately in a private Villa in Tuscany (Italy).
