About the Item

Baroque Virgin and Child with Peruvian Silver Crown, Spain, 18th Century A magnificent Baroque sculpture carved in wood and polychromed, depicting the Virgin and Child. The Virgin is crowned with an added piece of chased silver of Peruvian origin, which enriches and distinguishes the composition. She carries the Child Jesus in her left arm, who holds a rosary, while she extends her right hand in a gesture of blessing. The dynamic folds of the brocaded mantle, with its vegetal decoration and gilding, as well as the serene expression of the faces, lend the work remarkable artistic quality. The cloud-shaped base with cherub heads is a characteristic feature of the Spanish Baroque. This is a large-format devotional work, intended for an altar, which retains its original polychromy and brocade in good condition, with slight wear consistent with its age. 106cm high, 57cm wide, 18cm deep, crown 18x19cm, total height with crown: 125cm
