About the Item
Circle of Henry Moore, Bronze Sculpture circa 1960, Signed H. Lurie.
Cast at the Morris Singer Foundry in London, which was used extensively by Henry Moore to cast his works between 1961 and 1984.
In 1967 the foundry was moved from London to Basingstoke. The stamp 'Morris Singer Founders London' on our sculpture means that it predates this move.
Morris Singer is the oldest established fine art foundry in the world and has worked with most of the major sculptors from Thornycroft and Gilbert in the early days to Barbara Hepworth and Jacob Epstein, and many more recent artists like Eduardo Paolozzi, Michael Sandle and Philip Jackson.
Morris Singer has cast many historically important monuments all over the world - from the Lions and Fountains in Trafalgar Square (1867) and Figure of Justice atop the Old Bailey (1906) in London to the Victory Arch in Baghdad (1988), the Holocaust Memorial in Toronto (1991) and the Commonwealth Soldiers Memorial in 2002. We are also delighted to have completed the furniture and bronze work for the new Trafalgar Square piazza in London.
Major statues in London include Oliver Cromwell, F D Roosevelt in Grosvenor Square and the 1997 Monument to Raoul Wallenberg. Morris Singer also specialises in casting sporting monuments, including the statues to Sir Matt Busby (1996) and Sir Garfield Sobers in Barbados (2001), Shergar, Ireland (2001) and the statue commemorating England's 1966 football World Cup Champions (2003).
Morris Singer was selected as the foundry for the project due to the high level of specialist expertise that is needed for such an intricate, quality design.
