About the Item

1920s Art Deco Cast Iron Bellhop Doorstop by Judd Manufacturing Co. This delightful 1920s Art Deco cast iron doorstop by Judd Manufacturing Co. captures the timeless charm of a hotel bellhop, standing smartly at attention with his hands at his sides, ready to assist guests of a grand old hotel. He wears the classic bellhop uniform, a pillbox hat, detailed button down jacket, and neatly pressed trousers, rendered in crisp sculptural detail. The piece has been professionally restored to its original paint colors. Made by the Judd Manufacturing Company of Wallingford, Connecticut, one of America’s premier makers of cast iron decorative objects in the early 20th century, this doorstop reflects the company’s commitment to both quality and artistry. Judd’s work is widely collected today for its distinctive design, solid craftsmanship, and nostalgic appeal. Art Deco doorstops like this one, especially those depicting bellhops or “lobby boys,” are particularly collectible. They evoke the spirit of the 1920s, a time of elegance, travel, and sophistication, when even everyday household items carried a touch of glamour and wit. Condition: Sturdy and solid, professionally restored to its original paint colors. Beautiful patina throughout.
