About the Item

Bronze sculpture with a brown patina, entitled "Alexander Killing a Lion in Bazaar on the Banks of the Bosphorus": Prince Alexander is presented as a hero, nude, with his sword raised, ready to strike down a lion already subdued. This sculpture illustrates an episode from the youth of Alexander the Great. This bronze bears the signature of Jacques Coinchon (1814-1883): a French sculptor, he studied in Paris where he became a student of David d'Angers and entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1838. He debuted at the Salon of 1844 and exhibited for the last time in 1881. The bronze is offered for sale as is: wear consistent with age to the patina, an added piece (old restoration to the base), and minor dents (on the shoulder). Height 31 cm, 30 x 16 cm. 7.450KG
