Coppia di piccole sculture in alabastro raffiguranti due allegorie, Malines, 16 secolo.
Le sculture raffigurano l'allegoria dell'Abbondanza, con il corno ricolmo di frutta, e l'allegoria dell'Estate, con un fascio di spighe tra le braccia. Mechelen fu un importante centro artistico nei Paesi Bassi, influenzato dalla presenza della corte di Margherita d'Austria all'inizio del secolo.
Margherita d'Austria invitò alla sua corte artisti e umanisti celebri, introducendo nel Paese il Rinascimento e favorendo un sostanziale sviluppo economico. La produzione di alabastri raggiunge il massimo livello nel terzo quarto del XVI secolo, fino a quando, nel 1572, la città viene saccheggiata e incendiata dagli spagnoli.
La maggior parte della produzione sono i ben noti rilievi raffiguranti scene di carattere religioso. Esiste però una produzione minore di tipo laico, spesso legata alla raffigurazione di allegorie.
Una delle due sculture, Estate, ha una mancanza nel basamento dal lato posteriore.
