About the Item
This is a lovely Spanish Colonial antique Santo figure, beautifully gilded with tones of deep red underpainting showing through. The statue represents a female saint or the Virgin Mary. She wears beautifully draped robes with a long rosary draped over one arm, and both hands are joined together in prayer. Of special note are the two roses at her feet, a symbol which is often associated with the Virgin Mary.
Structurally in good condition with losses to the paint and and gilding commensurate with age.
Old label noted these as circa 1682, but we cannot guarantee the authenticity of that date.
