About the Item
Fabulous and rare, this pair of gilded bronze door pulls by Maurice Jallot depict two joyous nude female figures, one a dancer and the other playing the tambourine. Although they serve a practical function, they can also be viewed as a pair of small sculptures, and represent the best of high-style Art Deco in 1940s France. Jallot was the son of Léon Jallot, who was famous for his folding screens and furniture, and they worked together over the years. The younger Jallot designed furniture for apartments, shops and hotels, the French presidents’ palace and embassies in Poland and Israel. The relief is sharp and crisp, and the gilding gives a warm, golden glow. The pulls retain their original hardware for easy installation.
