About the Item
A heavy 1970's Mexican chrome, marble and glass spinning top sculpture by Mexican artist Diego Matthai. The chrome structure is surrounded by 2 glass rings near the sharp end. The big white marble disc is the biggest addition and gives the shape and inclination to the whole sculpture. The top of the structure ends in a spherical shape. Piece is unsigned.
Diego Matthai Springer (1942 - 2023) was a Mexican architect, industrial designer and plastic artist. The son of German parents who established in Mexico before World War II. He studied Architecture at Universidad Iberoamericana and established himself as an important architect and interior designer during the 1970's and 1980's. As an architect, he developed more than 600 projects. As an artist and designer, he penned more than 1,500 works.
