About the Item

Large bronze sculpture titled “Duo” by celebrated Mexican sculptor Victor Salmones (1937–1989). This striking example of Salmones’ work was acquired directly from the Victor Salmones Gallery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in 1983 and is designated as the Artist’s Proof (P/A) — an especially desirable distinction for collectors. Rendered in solid bronze with a deep, hand-rubbed patina, “Duo” depicts two abstracted figures in a tender yet dynamic embrace. The sculptural composition reveals Salmones’ signature balance between geometric precision and emotional intimacy — a hallmark of his mature style. The flowing planes and interlocking volumes reflect both modernist influence and deeply human expression. The sculpture is mounted on its original marble pedestal, whose earthy tones beautifully complement the bronze. Together, the ensemble forms a monumental statement piece that embodies timeless elegance and sculptural mastery. Measurements: Sculpture: 30 in H × 20 in W × 18.5 in D Pedestal: 34.25 in H × 24.75 in W × 18.5 in D Overall height: approx. 64.25 in Accompanied by its original certificate of authenticity, issued February 17, 1983, and signed by the artist at Galería y Estudios Víctor, Acapulco. About the Artist Victor Salmones was one of the foremost figures of 20th-century Mexican sculpture. Trained at Mexico City’s prestigious Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes under the tutelage of sculptor Jorge de la Peña Beltrán, Salmones developed a unique sculptural language that fused modern abstraction with deeply human themes of love, unity, and transformation. Throughout his career, Salmones earned both national and international acclaim. His monumental bronzes have been exhibited and installed in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, including prominent public commissions in Houston, Mexico City, and Acapulco. His work is held in important private and institutional collections worldwide. Salmones’ legacy lies in his ability to combine the sensuality and strength of classical form with the expressive freedom of modernism. Collectors of Mexican modern and postwar art value his work for its technical mastery, spiritual depth, and symbolic representation of the human condition.

Whimsical Bronze Sculpture by Francisco del Toro, Mexico, 1992
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Expressive and evocative bronze sculpture by Francisco del Toro (Mexican, Guerrero, 20th century), signed Del Toro ’92. This one-of-a-kind piece showcases del Toro’s mastery in merging organic abstraction with emotional figuration, embodying both movement and introspection through its fluid, surreal form. The elongated figure, perched on a solid stone base, reveals a captivating dialogue between smooth, polished surfaces and rugged, textured elements — a hallmark of del Toro’s sculptural language. The patinated bronze transitions in tone from deep forest green to earthy bronze, emphasizing the interplay between form, texture, and light. Del Toro’s work often explores the human spirit’s resilience and transformation, with this particular sculpture exuding both strength and vulnerability. The head, seemingly emerging from raw material, evokes a timeless and almost mythological presence, while the sensuous curvature of the body connects to themes of fertility and creation found in Mexican modernist sculpture. An exceptional example of Mexican contemporary bronze art, ideal for collectors of Latin American sculpture...
