About the Item
Exquisitely detailed hand-carved sculpture of a woman by Spanish artist Luis Antonio Sanguino. The woman depicted has delicate features and is wearing a long shawl rich in detail and texture, her long hair falling on her back in a cascade. On her arm is a woven basket for transporting fish, thus the title of the piece: "Fisherwoman". This piece is based on a bronze sculpture by the same artist from an earlier date. Luis Antonio Sanguino born in Barcelona, Spain in 1934 has lived and worked in Spain, New York, and México. He is known mainly for his Monumental Sculptures in many cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Washington in the US, Madrid, Pamplona, Albacete, Cádiz and Segovia in Spain, México City, Monterrey, Toluca, Veracruz, and San Luis in México, among others. His great skill can be appreciated in direct work on diverse materials like Stone, Marble, Wood, and Plaster. Is important to note that the final Sculpture shows rich texture, color, and lines from the walnut wood piece selected. It is signed "4-4 Sanguino".
