About the Item

A fine massive and elaborate 18th/19th century English hand carved, geso and paint decorated ship's masthead of Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson. Traditionally carved in Maritime tradition and having great weight and excellent age/use patina. Lord Nelson is the famous historical figure and English naval commander who died during the Battle of Trafalgar, leading Britain to Victory over the French navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Dressed in a gold accented official naval blue uniform, with appropriate hat, and light blue sash. Condition : Please see detail photos. Restoration recommended. Some level of stabilization or restoration is recommended. Various signs of age include some stable areas of dry rot, paint and wood losses, active flaking and weathering. All of the aforementioned is for accuracy as the Figurehead presents in a historical and extraordinary manner. Mounted with iron hardware on verso.
