Fantastic Sculpture of Saint Peter the Apostle, Spanish School, 18th Century Almost life-size sculpture of Saint Peter the Apostle, carved in polychrome and gilded wood. An imposing sculpture of Saint Peter the Apostle, carved in wood and polychromed, with gilded details. Almost life-size (approximately 120–140 cm), it depicts the Prince of the Apostles in a red tunic and golden mantle, holding the keys in his right hand, his principal attribute. A work of the Spanish school, 18th century, probably intended for a prominent place in an altarpiece or for processional use. The polychromy retains an antique patina with signs of age, which reinforce its authenticity. A piece of great size and quality, exceptional within Baroque devotional imagery for its size and presence. 103 cm high, 56 cm wide (122 cm with diadem)
