About the Item
An extremely decorative French 19th century Grand Tour Period patinated Bronze and black Belgian marble Arc de Triomphe statue/box, signed LeBlanc Frères, Paris. This wonderfully decorative and highly detailed Arc de Triomphe is finished on all sides and raised by a thick oval shaped black Belgian marble base. The statue is modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris conceived as a monument to military glory and national pride. In 1806, after Napoleon’s decisive victory at the Battle of Austerlitz, he ordered the construction of a monumental triumphal arch to honor the French armies and immortalize the achievements of soldiers who fought for France during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The roof of the Arc de Triomphe lifts to reveal the LeBlanc Frères stamp and an inner compartment with green fabric. All original patination throughout.
LeBlanc Frères was a distinguished French firm active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, renowned for its refined decorative arts and architectural metalwork. The workshop is especially admired for elegant lighting, ironwork, and ornamental designs that exemplify the craftsmanship and stylistic sophistication of the Belle Époque.
