About the Item
An extremely decorative French 19th century Grand Tour Period patinated Bronze and Rosso Levanto marble Arc de Triomphe statue/box. This wonderfully decorative and highly detailed Arc de Triomphe is finished on all sides and raised by a thick oval shaped Rosso Levanto marble base. The statue is modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris conceived as a monument to military glory and national pride. In 1806, after Napoleon’s decisive victory at the Battle of Austerlitz, he ordered the construction of a monumental triumphal arch to honor the French armies and immortalize the achievements of soldiers who fought for France during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The roof of the Arc de Triomphe lifts on its original hinge and reveals an inner compartment with purple tufted fabric. All original patination throughout.
