About the Item

A beautiful and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated Bronze and Ormolu statue of titled 'Mignon'. This wonderful statue of 'Mignon' is based on a character in Ambroise Thomas's three-act opera Mignon from 1866, also known as the "Opéra Comique" of the same name. This beautiful statue is raised on a uniquely shaped base and supported by a similar shaped Ormolu base plate. The front of the base is decorated with a reeded pattern and a plaque reading 'Mignon'. Above the base is Mignon herself dressed in worn attire with tears and holding a mandolin. She casually leans against a highly decorated rectangular support decorated with mottled edges, foliated vines, and scrolling acanthus leaves.
