About the Item

An attractive and most impressive French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Ormolu, patinated Bronze, Wedgwood Porcelain and marble statue of Archimedes. This handsome statue is raised on an oval shaped marble base with a rounded edge all above circular toupie shaped feet. Above is Archimedes seated on a patinated Bronze and Ormolu block with a decorative oval fitted Wedgwood Porcelain plaque of classical figure in a landscape. Archimedes is shown wearing a draped robe while his left leg is raised and resting on a glove while looking at a portrait of a young maiden. Beautiful with wonderful attention to detail throughout. Archimedes (c. 287 BCE – c. 212 BCE) was a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer. Widely regarded as one of the greatest minds of the ancient world—and one of the greatest mathematicians of all time
