About the Item

A wonderful and high quality French 19th century Verdigris Bronze statue of the Winged Victory of Samothrace. This stunning statue is modeled after the original circa 190 BCE sculpture that was discovered on the island of Samothrace in 1863. The original statue is now displayed at the Louvre, with this model being raised on a square Verdigris Bronze base. This statue represents the Goddess Nike, whose head and arms are missing. She stands proudly with her dress billowing in the wind and open wings swelling with air. Wonderful and rich patination throughout.
