About the Item

An extremely charming French 19th century white Carrara marble statue of Eros and Anteros. The grouping of Putti, or boys is after a model by François-Joseph LeClercq modeled as Eros and Anteros which he named: "Deux amours luttant pour un cœur" (Two loves fighting for a heart). The statue is raised by a circular base where the two children stand with a quiver at their feet and the heart over which they quarrel. Holding a flowing fabric the wonderfully sculpted winged putti are pushing one another to get to the heart.
