ELEGANT ART DECO BRONZE OF A NUDE FEMALE DRAPED IN FLOWERS, SIGNED BOURAINE AND CAST BY GOLDSCHEIDER, CIRCA 1920-1925
From our Bronze Sculpture collection we are delighted to offer this exquisite French Art Deco bronze figure depicting a seated nude woman gracefully covering herself with a garland of flowers. Sculpted by the celebrated French artist Marcel André Bouraine (1886-1948) and cast by the renowned Parisian founder Arthur Goldscheider, the piece dates to the early Art Deco period, circa 1920-1925.
Finely cast using the cire perdue (lost-wax) technique, the bronze carries a rich dark brown patination, highlighting the delicate details of the floral garland and Bouraine’s characteristic elegance of form. The figure rests upon a rectangular burl wood base, complementing the sensuous composition.
The bronze is signed Bouraine and stamped with Goldscheider’s foundry mark, Cire Perdue A.G. Paris with the number 25. Bouraine was a leading sculptor of the Art Deco movement, noted for his statuettes, lamps, and figures that captured the spirit of the era. His works were exhibited at major events, including the 1924 Paris Olympics and the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne. Goldscheider, son of the Austrian entrepreneur, Friedrich Goldscheider meanwhile, was a celebrated founder and art dealer who collaborated with leading sculptors of the Art Deco and Jugendstil periods, ensuring the highest standards of casting and finish.
A superb example of early 20th-century French decorative sculpture, this piece echos the glamour and movement of the Art Deco era.
