About the Item
An extremely elegant Art Deco Terracotta Sculpture of a woman with her Borzoi dog, made in 1930 by Georges Coste.
Stamped on the base with the Susse Frères Foundry seal and signed George Costes.
Georges Coste was born in France in the late 19th century and worked as a sculptor through the early decades of the twentieth century, at the height of the Art Deco period. He studied with Boucher and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes, where he won a third class medal in 1925.
Coste's works feature the sleek, elongated forms typical of the Art Deco period, while simultaneously exhibiting a rare tenderness and warmth. His female figures are often accompanied by animals, in this case, a dog looking lovingly at his owner.
This piece is in excellent condition, with no visible cracks or losses. It looks stunning on a credenza or in a garden. Bronze examples of this piece were also cast.
